Used Apple iPhones
One of the most popular phones in the United States, there were 6.5 million iPhones sold in the third quarter of 2008. Apple estimated that it would sell 10 million iPhones through the whole of 2008, and estimates are that that number was surpassed sometime in September. The touchscreen (and multi-touch) interface and the ease of use are it's main features giving it a hard to match cool factor.
Used AT&T Tilt Phones
The AT&T Tilt is so-called because it slides and then tilts. The QWERTY keyboard and a large touchscreen combines with a package of features designed for full connectivity: tri-band UMTS/HSDPA; quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE; integrated Wi-Fi; Bluetooth; and integrated GPS. Running on Windows Mobile, it also has a 3.0 MP camera and a music player, with a micro-SD expansion slot.
Used Blackberry Curve Phones
Made by Research In Motion, the Blackberry Curve series (8300/8310/8320/8330) of smartphones, was designed for business use with email & instant messaging, 2.0 MP camera, multimedia player and internet browser. The Blackberry Curve 8310 and 8330 has built-in GPS capability, while the 8320 has Wi-Fi support. The 8330 also has a video recorder. The 8300, 8310 and 8320 run on GSM/GPRS/EDGE networks, while the 8330 runs on CDMA 1X networks.
Used Blackberry Pearl Phones
The Blackberry Pearl 8100/8110/8120/8130 series phone has one of the smallest form-factors in a smartphone. The Blackberry Pearl 8220 series, however, has a different form-factor: there are only so few flip smartphones around. Features for the Pearl range from the SMS/IM, camera, video streaming and recording, GPS and Wi-Fi support.
Used Android Phones
The Google Android, as a platform for a phone, is one of the most anticipated developments in smartphones. Developed by Google, it is based on a linux-like kernel and allows developers to create programs and content in a java-like language which is machine independent. The machine agnosticism is aimed to make the Android a viable alternative to other operating systems currently running on smartphones. The first phone to run on Android is the T-Mobile G1.
Used LG Rumor Phones
Available on Sprint, the LG Rumor is advertised as not being a smartphone, though it's features are close enough to one. It has a sliding QWERTY keyboard underneath a relatively small (for a smartphone) 2" display. It runs on CDMA 1x 900/1800, with a host of personal information management tools which include a notepad, alarm, scheduler, calculator, D-Day counter and unit converter. It also has a 1.3MP camera, an MP3 player and a speaker at the back.
Used Motorola RAZR Phones
One of Motorola's most popular models, the RAZR series continues to be upgraded with new releases. A full-featured flip phone, it has a thin-form factor which is relatively wide. The RAZR took off from where the ROKR left off as it has one of the best MP3 players around. It is bundled with a speaker which is surprisingly loud and clear.
Used T-Mobile Dash Phones
A quad-band smartphone from T-Mobile, the Dash is everything you would expect from most other smartphones. It has a QWERTY keyboard up front, coupled with rounded corners all around, it looks smaller than it really is. Powered by MS Windows Mobile, the phone has all the usual smartphone features. But one feature it has which is quite uncommon is the voice-activated dialling. Not every phone has that; and not everyone uses it either.
Used Samsung Blackjack Phones
The Samsung Blackjack is a tri-band GSM smartphone with a QWERTY keyboard up front. A little bit wide, but not much wider as other smartphones, the display looks small because of the orientation. Running on the Cingular network, the Blackjack has most of the standard smartphone features, except for Wi-Fi. It also has a micro-SD slot for files. For data transfer, headphone connection, and battery charging it has only one USB port. Which means, you can't use the headphone while charging.
Used Samsung Instinct
Available only through Sprint, the Samsung Instinct is not an Apple iPhone killer. Though it does look like one. Besides the regular features you would expect of a smartphone, the coolest feature of the Instinct has to be the built-in GPS navigation with Telenav.
